The Chamonix Valley has always attracted mountaineering enthusiasts and lovers of wide open spaces. In 1741, two Englishmen set out to conquer the glaciers. In 1786, two inhabitants of Chamonix made the very first ascent of the famous Mont-Blanc. In 1821, the Compagnie des Guides was created and helped to develop the tourist activity of the valley. Thanks to the introduction of the railway in 1901, Chamonix is more accessible and can welcome visitors all year round. The reputation of the resort exploded in 1924 with the organisation of the First Winter Olympic Games.
Chamonix La Vallée Blanche
Situated in the heart of the Mont-Blanc Massif, La Vallée Blanche is accessible from the Aiguille du Midi cable car. It offers an incredible freeride area with almost 2,000 metres of vertical drop. Les Grands Montets Ski Area
The Grands Montets ski area extends between 1,235 and 2,800 metres above sea level. It is a real winter sports area and every year it attracts more and more freestyle enthusiasts. The Freestyle Park des Grands Montets has several HDTV cameras all along the course to capture your most beautiful tricks! What's more, this area offers incredible powder fields and freeride areas to make your own tracks. This is the favourite domain of freeride enthusiasts, where you can hurtle down the snowy slopes under the gaze of the mythical summits.
Les Grands Montets offers high-mountain ski slopes, innovative ski lifts and groups together three slopes, the Argentière glacier, Lognan and La Pendant. Very sunny, this Chamonix Argentière ski area is accessible to all levels of skiers. Indeed, on the Lognan plateau there is a large beginners' area, a new sliding area with the Summit Cross for large freeride areas. At the foot of the Balme ski area, you can enjoy a filmed and timed slalom stadium or the Cool Zone for a relaxing moment in the snowpark.

How to come to Chamonix Argentiere?
From the airports of Geneva (88 km), Lyon-Saint-Exupéry (220 km) and Haute-Savoie Mont Blanc airport (90 km), coach and train connections are available to reach the valley. The Mont Blanc Express SNCF railway station is regularly served, and the Léman Express cross-border network provides a link between Switzerland and France. Finally, Chamonix Argentière is accessible by road via the Autoroute Blanche (A40). From Italy, the Mont-Blanc tunnel is only 15 km from the border. And from Switzerland, the Col de la Forclaz and the Col des Montets allow easy access to the Chamonix valley.
