La Rosière Centre: the border station
Perched at an altitude of 1,850 metres, La Rosière is a ski resort overlooking the Tarentaise Valley. A destination of choice for all lovers of mountain and winter sports, this resort testifies to what human ingenuity and respect for the environment can accomplish when they come together in an exceptional mountain setting.
Nestled in the French Alps on the border of Italy, La Rosière was then a small alpine hamlet that was little frequented by tourists. Founded by shepherds, today it is a modern ski resort that has preserved the authenticity and natural beauty of the region. A key moment in the history of La Rosière was its connection with the Italian station of La Thuile, on the other side of the border. This link has opened up new opportunities for skiers, allowing them to hit the slopes on both sides of the border and explore an exceptionally large ski area.
Exceptional snow cover
Thanks to its location, La Rosière is one of the top 10 snowiest ski resorts with 7 meters of snow on average. Arranged as a balcony, the Rosière also offers an exceptional panorama of the valley and makes you benefit from an exceptional sunshine throughout the year.
The mythical Petit St-Bernard pass
On the Petit Saint-Bernard pass, you can observe a circle of stones standing on the edge of the road. An ancient archaeological area, the pass is home to an amazing megalithic monument, which is now considered a vestige of the Hannibal Passage. Indeed, this Carthaginian politician trampled the lands of the Alps during his great crossing to attack Rome. With his elephants, he crossed the pass and left traces of his passage near La Rosière.
A sustainable station
Concerned about the environment and the preservation of its natural heritage, the resort of La Rosière aims to combine tourist activities and sustainable development. Through numerous actions, the station is committed to protecting the environment:
- Tree planting: trees help regulate our ecosystem by stabilizing soils, filtering water or avoiding erosion;
- Reduced greenhouse gas emissions;
- Greener means of transport: to encourage tourists to travel by train, La Rosière offers a 15% discount on a ski pass;
- Reduced crop snow production: since 2016, the station has implemented an innovative hydroelectric program to produce clean energy for its crop snow network;
- Preservation of natural environments: La Rosière is committed to protecting the fauna and flora on its ski area with the creation of its own Environmental Observatory.
The French-Italian ski area
Connecting the resort of La Rosière (in France) to that of La Thuile (in Italy), the Espace San Bernardo is a unique ski area in the world. With 154 kilometres of pistes, you can enjoy a variety of pistes for all levels on either side of the border. Modern and fast ski lifts, relaxation areas, play areas, it is the ideal area to spend unforgettable moments with the family.
La Dolce Vita
Franco-Italian culture can also be felt in the gastronomy of the Espace San Bernardo. You can enjoy Savoyard specialities in the restaurants of La Rosière, then cross the border to enjoy authentic Italian dishes in La Thuile. Conviviality and culinary diversity are at the rendezvous, creating a unique experience for gourmets.
Play areas
Mont-Valaisan is the brand new freeride area accessible by two chairlifts. With a high point at 2,800 metres above sea level, it is a huge playground that will delight off-piste enthusiasts, to make your own mark on these still virgin snowy slopes.
To immortalize your visit to La Rosière, take advantage of the photo spot the Panoramic Experience. On a walkway suspended in the void, enjoy an incredible view of the Franco-Italian border and a real tête-à-tête with Mont Blanc.
Do you dare to enjoy a Savoyard fondue in the heart of an igloo? The igloo village of La Rosière welcomes you in an unusual atmosphere for a unique experience.
Finally, boardercross and funcross are accessible with family or friends in different places of the ski area. Tunnels, whoops, modules, obstacles, who will cross the finish line first?
